Sub-branch

Welcome to Currumbin Palm Beach RSL Sub Branch

Established in 1947 at the Old School of Arts Hall in Currumbin, our Sub branch has a very proud history caring for our veteran community. While we have grown over time we have always maintained our focus and commitment to providing veteran support and commemoration. We established the Ron Workman OAM Veteran Support Centre in 1998 and the Young Veteran Support Services in 2017. Both of these services provide veteran support, advocacy and connect veterans to essential services. We also offer a social and wellbeing program with focus on connecting our veterans.

Vision

Past Present Future

Mission

We honour the reason we exist, but ensure we are relevant in the present, with an eye on the future.

We also invest in our veteran facilities including the Cenotaph and Memorial Garden at Currumbin RSL waterfront. Our days of Remembrance are hosted at these sites and are reflective and inclusive.

We are always looking for new members and welcome feedback from our current members. Join our veteran community, connect with other veterans, reach out for support if you need it and become a part of this very special group. Together we are better.

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

One of the Key Roles of our RSL includes Commemoration and Remembrance. This is done via important and significant Remembrance Days such as ANZAC Day & Remembrance Day, along with others.

COMMEMORATION

Anzac day - april 25

ANZAC Day marks the anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli in 1915 during World War I. However our ANZAC Day commemorative service goes beyond this. It is the day where we remember all Australians who served and died in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. Currumbin RSL is the creator, funder and manager of one of Australia’s largest regional Dawn Services which attracts tens of thousands of people each year.

VP VJ DAY – AUGUST 15 2023

On the 15th August 2023 Currumbin Palm Beach Sub Branch will be commemorating VP Day with an intimate gathering at our cenotaph at 11am, followed by lunch in The Cove for invited guests. Currumbin Palm Beach Sub Branch is honoured to have 40 members who served in the 2nd World War and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their service.

VIETNAM VETERANS DAY – AUGUST 18 2023

We remember the sacrifices of those who died and thank the 60,000 Australians who served during the 10 years of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War between 1962 and 1972. Sadly, 521 died and 3000 were wounded.

On the 18th August 2023 Currumbin Palm Beach Sub Branch will hold a Vietnam Veterans’ Day service at the Currumbin RSL Cenotaph that will commence at 11.00am. No need to register for this service, however you will need to book yourself in for the luncheon. The lunch is FREE for Currumbin Palm Beach Sub Branch members & Veterans. Partners/carers are $45 and general tickets will be $80 You can get your tickets for the luncheon below.

VETERAN CONVERSATIONS

Have you ever wanted to ask a Veteran about their experiences? Would you like to know how Veterans feel about their service?

Currumbin RSL has launched “Veteran Conversations” – a series of five videos of  conversations between a Vietnam Veteran and a Young Veteran. The discussions examine the similarities and differences between their time spent deployed, showcase some candid sides of military life, shared stories and that camaraderie of the Australian digger certainly can span generations. As Vietnam Veterans transition into a leadership role within Veteran cohorts, the project was created to give Vietnam Veterans the much-deserved profile, honour and dignity for their service which was, for so very long, not valued.

Subjects covered in the conversations include joining Defence, weapons, encounters in conflicts, civilian interactions and personal mental health. The project was borne from a Currumbin Palm Beach RSL Sub Branch member and Vietnam Veteran asking if he could meet a young Veteran to ask questions about “their war”. He identified with fighting in the dense jungles of Vietnam – and wanted to understand how modern soldiers have fought in the desert with little or no cover?

The videos are 10minutes each – grab a cuppa, sit down and learn about a soldier’s life through Veteran’s words.
